Arch Linux derivative — ID kryonos, rolling
Custom branding, a kernel packaging fork, and a live installer ISO that builds itself from one command.
An Arch Linux derivative. Plain C11 tools, a Z# systems language, a Cloudflare-backed pacman repository in development — and a website that says what is unproven out loud.
What is proven
A real install, end to end
One complete install has been performed: apps/ → make stage → installer-iso/airootfs/ → customize_airootfs.sh → mkarchiso → boot, 16 wizard questions → kryon-install → disk → boot. The machine came up off the disk with the ISO detached.
BIOS + MBR + grub-install --target=i386-pc produced a bootable machine: btrfs root with compress=zstd, a separate /home, XFCE, GRUB.
What is open
Everything else in this project is either untested, prepared but not in use, or not started — and is labelled as such. Value at this point is the honest statement of what is unproven: the Status page enumerates it, including the fact that the [kryon] pacman repository has no deployed hostname and linux-kryon is deliberately not installable yet.
The programs
All four are plain C11; only the wizard links beyond libc. The live image ships no toolchain, so they are compiled on the host and staged.
zen
The package manager wrapper: a front end, not a package manager. Every real operation is an execvp of pacman/makepkg/git/flatpak/curl. zen -aur for the AUR, zen -flatpak for Flathub, zen -sync for the official repos. libc only.
wizard
The graphical installer front end (GTK3). Collects answers, writes the params file, runs kryon-install. Never touches a disk.
kryon-tui
The text installer front end. 16 sections, no curses, same params file, same installer.
World-map time zone picker
Clickable world map: 442 zones drawn from exact timezone-boundary outlines, colour-coded by UTC offset, keyboard-accessible (Tab, arrows, Enter, Shift). Verified against real geography.
